We collected two exhausted campers today who did not want to come home! They both had a fantastic time at summer camp and wished they could have stayed for two weeks. However, all their belongings were damp and they needed some nutrition and sleep! The camp staff uploaded hundreds of photos during the week and we managed to find Claudia in quite a few but Kerstin didn't feature much. The girls now have Girl Scout Camp to look forward to next week.
Today we drove to the North Georgia mountains to drop the girls off at their first sleep-away summer camp for six nights. Unfortunately we left them a bit soaked as it poured with rain while we dropped them off, and the forecast for the week is not great. Hopefully the rain won't stop the fun though. They were both excited and eager to make new friends and enjoy new adventures, without us. The only contact will be through snail mail, although the camp will send us photos during the week.
This week the girls have been busy at local summer day camps; Kerstin attended science camp and Claudia went to gymnastics camp and they both had a great time. Kerstin also tested for her next Martial Arts belt (green) and both girls have been practising their swimming every day, ready for the swim tests at their next two summer camps. Most important of all, they have been packing and getting ready for their first ever sleep-away camp next week! We're not sure who's more excited - them or us!
This week we have been chilling out at home after our whirlwind trip to Canada; The girls have been reading plenty of books for the Summer Reading Challenge arranged by our local library as well as enjoying the pool. The highlight of the week though, was our first visit to Sky Zone, an indoor trampoline park, a half-hour drive away which the girls have been desperate to try out for a while. We chose a good day to go as it wasn't busy and they had a blast!
The summer holidays have begun here and our first summer adventure has been an exciting trip to Canada. We flew to Alberta and spent a couple of days exploring the Badlands and Calgary, including The Royal Tyrrell Museum, followed by driving into the Rocky Mountains with a stop at Banff. From there we drove to Lake Louise and on through three more National Parks, to arrive at the Vancouver coast via Kamloops. It was quite an epic road trip, despite only covering two Canadian provinces, and made us appreciate how vast the country is. We then enjoyed a few days on the Sunshine Coast peninsular just north of Vancouver, where Susan's aunt and uncle live with their beautiful rare Alaskan Klee Kai dogs, before going into Vancouver to meet Susan's cousins who live there. We spent a weekend exploring the city before flying back south to Atlanta. It was a brilliant first adventure into Canada and we all agreed we'd definitely love to go back again. |
