The final stop on our Savannah road trip was Wormsloe, another incredible place full of history.
Fort Pulaski is situated on an island on the Savannah River between Tybee Island and the city of Savannah. It's defining event in history was during the Civil War in 1862 and it was fascinating to learn more US history here. We really enjoyed visiting the fort on a beautiful hot day. Tybee Island was fantastic! The huge sandy beach was almost empty apart from a few surfers, despite the unseasonably warm temperatures of up to 25 degrees. We all really enjoyed the space, warmth and sea air of Georgia's easternmost point. On 29th December we went into Savannah for the day. It was a beautiful historic city which we all enjoyed and will definitely be visiting again as there is so much to see and do. Savannah felt more like a European city and was a complete contrast to Atlanta. On 28th December we took a road trip south east across Georgia to the historic city of Savannah and the Island of Tybee. On the way we stopped at the incredible Ocmulgee National Monument, a prehistoric Native American site. On Boxing Day we ventured to a new park which was 25 minutes drive away. The playground was excellent and the weather was hot (up to 25 degrees!) and very humid.
Today we went to Atlanta Rocks! with Uncle Pete for some indoor climbing. What a fantastic place! We'll definitely be going back again.
We found pepparkaka dough hidden at the back of a freezer in IKEA (while we were stocking up on sill for our julbord!) so the girls had fun baking today. We also discovered recently that Atlanta has a "British Shop", handily located near Jonathan's office, so he bought some mincemeat (as well as other items for our 'English' Christmas) and we also made mince pies today. Yum! And all just in time for the arrival of Uncle Pete from NZ!
I enjoyed a new cultural experience at school on Thursday. Once a month a group of PTA moms (pictured) wheel the 'Teacher Appreciation" trolley around all the classrooms giving out gifts to all the teachers. Last month was apparently Asian food. This month they were giving out 'princess' treats; frosted cupcakes and candies.
Today we're missing our craft room! The girls have been working on their projects on the basement floor.
