While Claudia was having fun with her new violin, Jonathan was busy cycling his first US 'challenge' road bike ride of 93km up in the Georgian mountains. He even rode past the Hiker Hostel where we stayed a few weeks ago.
Kerstin has gone away up north for the weekend with her Brownie Troop. Very bad weather here in the city meant we couldn't get outside to explore any new areas. We did find a wonderful new shop though... This afternoon we went to the Atlanta Legoland Discovery Center which was Kerstin's choice for a birthday treat and was only 15 minutes drive away. It only took two hours to explore, (rather than two days like the real Legoland in Denmark) but we had plenty of fun anyway! We had a good weekend which started well when we ate out at a local Mediterranean restaurant called Olive Bistro to celebrate our driving test success. The food was excellent and being there felt like we were back in Europe for a hour! On Saturday Jonathan went for his first long road ride with the local cycling club so he was happy. We went to some furniture shops in search of a new bed for Claudia and ended up back at IKEA, which was fine as it was quiet there and we stocked up on muesli and meatballs! We even managed to go for a bike ride along the local Chattahoochee river path in-between unpacking and bed building!
Today we took our Georgian road driving test and passed, yay! What a relief. We had to hire yet another car, since Susan's current hire car is not allowed to be used for testing and neither of us wanted to take the test in Jonathan's huge SUV. We hired the smallest car with a company that permits testing and it was all very complicated and expensive so it was a relief to pass first time. On Saturday 5th September we went on our first little road trip north out of Atlanta to the southern tip of the North Georgian Mountains. Josh and Leigh hiked and climbed all over the world, then decided to live in the mountains and established the Hiker Hostel near Dahlonega at the start of the Appalachian Trail. It was excellent and we'll definitely be going back. They made everyone feel very welcome and the cooked breakfast was delicious! Our house in Sweden was packed up at the end of June and we've been living out of suitcases since then. Our container only left Sweden on 27th July and finally arrived at our house here on 2nd September. Everything was intact, even the piano!
