After the American summer camp experience it was time for a trip back to Sweden and England. We were really looking forward to catching up with family and friends, although in such a short space of time we didn't get to see as many people as we would have liked. It was a relief to be able to walk around places on pavements instead of having to drive the car everywhere. However, the volume of traffic seemed the same on both sides of the Atlantic!
For the final week, both girls went to Girl Scout day camp which we went to visit in March. The highlight of this camp was staying over for one night in a tent as well as cooking dinner on the camp fire. We had two very exhausted girls to collect the next day! The camp included many activities to choose from each day, including archery, kayaking, giant swing and weird science! And while they were away we enjoyed a meal out at another highly rated local restaurant. For the second week, Kerstin went to Circus Camp (yes, really!) which was hosted by one of the local private schools. Claudia went to Art Camp which was held at our school by their brilliant Art teacher.
After Richard and Marion left, it was time for the long-awaited American Summer Camp Experience. The girls went to three very different week long summer camps. First was Science Camp, which they attended together, and was excellent.
Jonathan took the girls and Richard and Marion to the Martin Luther King Jr National Historic Site in downtown Atlanta which celebrates his life and work. The site includes his boyhood home, his father's church and his grave as well as a fascinating exhibition about the civil rights movement. This is a must-see in Atlanta. |
