Uncle Pete arrived to stay with us today, as the final stop on his latest epic global adventure which has included visiting New York, Seattle and Las Vegas. We only gave him time to put his bag down before taking an UBER downtown for a tour of the CNN studios at their world headquarters!
Today it was time to continue our exploration of Georgian historic sites and state parks with a visit to the Etowah Indian Mounds around forty minutes drive north of Atlanta. The six flat-topped earthen knolls were used from about 900-1550 A.D. as dwellings, mortuary ground and temple areas. The site also has a museum full of archeological finds from the area, and a nature trail which we all enjoyed despite the very hot temperatures.
Today we all visited school for the annual Celebration of Learning where the students are invited in to meet their new teachers, visit all the classrooms and find out all the useful information about the upcoming school year which begins on August 1st. The girls are very excited to be back at school, and both of them have the class teacher they wished for!
We arrived back in Atlanta very late on Sunday night after our fantastic summer trip to Europe and we were all looking forward to feeling the Georgian heat as we stepped out of the airport! Unlike our first year here when we had to start school almost immediately, this year we have a week to recover from the jet lag and settle back in. We're already enjoying the pool, and are looking forward to seeing friends back at school on Friday for the Celebration of Learning.
We've had a fantastic summer trip back to Europe seeing family and friends. We spent our first week in Sweden, catching up with many friends, and then spent two weeks in the UK, meeting up with over fifty family and friends. In the middle of the trip the girls went to the Isle of Wight, off the south coast of England with Uncle Pete, Granny, Grandad, and Aunty Susan, while Jonathan and Susan enjoyed a 40th birthday long weekend in Mallorca. |
