We didn't plan any big adventures this weekend. Instead we tried out a drive-thru called Chick-fil-A, (shocking!) drank wine with our lovely neighbours, did a bit of shopping and visited 'Bed, Bath and Beyond' (Giant warehouse stacked full of home stuff) where we bought some curtains. We must be starting to settle in as we'd finally got fed up of having bedspreads covering the windows! We also bought some tennis racquets so now we can enjoy using our tennis courts. The girls invited some friends over for a pool play date as well which was fun. We've heard that our container has arrived in Atlanta so hopefully we'll be getting our belongings at the end of this week. We are especially looking forward to getting our beds, bikes and lego!
On Thursday I walked from our house in another direction by going through the grounds of the private school that is situated next to our community. In less than half an hour I reached a lovely shopping and cafe/restaurant area called 'Vinings Jubilee'. We'll definitely be going back there. On Sunday morning there was a big rainstorm so our plans for an outdoor adventure were abandoned and we decided to go to IKEA which is only 15 minutes drive away. By the time we got there the sky was blue again and the weather was humid and very hot. We all felt a sense of familiarity in IKEA combined with the dawning realization that we are so far away from Sweden and that we're not just on holiday here. I asked Kerstin if she felt like she was 'back in Sweden' and she indignantly answered "No, of course not, why would I, no one is speaking Swedish here."
We dropped off Kerstin at a rock climbing and sleepover party (yes, she has made lots of friends and already got a social life!) and then we drove to the local library to sign up. Looking good from the outside... Meanwhile Kerstin was having a fab time climbing... (photos courtesy of her friend's mom!)
We can't believe we've been here three weeks already! We decided to celebrate the start of the weekend with a meal out, since almost everyone we've met here really does eat out All The Time. We were recommended 'Chipotle' for a quick, fun, Mexican meal. However despite being quick and cheap, the place was cold and industrial, (so we took our meal home instead of eating in,) the food was bland and they'd run out of guacamole. It was disappointing and we won't be going back. But don't worry, there are literally hundreds more places to eat /drive thru within a few minutes, so we'll have no problem trying a new place next time! The Californian wine was excellent though...
On Thursday, we went here to complete our Georgia driving license applications and take the Road Rules and Road Signs tests. We both passed, yay, (after endless hours of reading the rules and taking practice tests online!) and we received our provisional Georgian licenses. We will both take our road test (yikes!) in September.
On Tuesday I took another walk from the house and in less than ten minutes I was at the start of the Chattahoochee River Trails which run extensively through Atlanta. We'll be able to walk and ride our bikes here without having to drive the car anywhere, hurrah!
